Broadhall youth under 13s v Letchworth Garden city eagles whites
Sunday 29th November 2009
This was the first meeting between the two teams this season and it took the home side seven minutes to score the first goal with Michael Simpson hitting a screamer from outside the area which bounced off the crossbar and into the path of Harrison Griffith who took a touch and struck a fine shot from the edge of the area to find the net. A second goal soon followed when the Letchworth keeper came from his area to clear the ball with Mitch Pagett receiving the ball and hit a first time shot over the keeper which was going in until Nathen Adeniregen helped in on its way on the six yard line. The home side had the upper hand and just before half time were three nil up thanks to Tyler kilcullen hitting a great shot from 25yards creeping in at the near post. The second half started as the first finished with Broadhall having most of the possession and it did not take long for Nathen to finish for his second. Mitch then got the goal he deserved with a lovely cross from Jack McCaffery on the left crossing low into the area with pace for Mitch to side foot in first time with his left foot to make it 5-0. John Veal then added to the tally with a well struck shot on the turn before Michael Simpson joined the list of scorers with a low shot that took a deflection and went over the stand-in keeper who had taken over at half time. With Broadhall continually making changes they found themselves conceding a goal after a long clearance from Letchworth finding the striker first to react and went on a blistering run leaving Ellis standing and the striker coolly slotted home past the advancing Billy Welch. Broadhall then scored another with Nathen volleying the ball with his back heel from the penalty spot from a corner before the hard working Reece king completed the tally when he collected the ball just past the half way line ran with the ball and rounded the keeper to calmly slot home. This keeps Broadhall’s great run going with 8 out of nine wins and 1 draw currently keeping them 3 points clear at the top of the table.
Would moving kids' football to a summer game help improve the development of young footballers?
Yes - better pitches mean a better chance to develop technique/skills
No - wouldn't make any real difference to development
Maybe - but I'd be worried about more injuries on firm pitches
